12 Days of Christmas Finger Puppets - Day 5 - Felt With Love Designs

So far, no more casualties among the puppets.

On the fifth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
5 Golden Rings
4 Calling Birds
3 French Hens
2 Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Day 1 & 2 // Day 3  // Day 4 // Day 5 (Today) // Day 6 // Day 7 // Day 8 // Day 9 // Day 10 // Day 11 // Day 12

Have you ever noticed how much “5 golden rings” sticks out among the other “gifts” in the song? It’s always really bothered me. The rest are birds and people … then we have these random rings. Is it just me? Maybe I should look up the meaning behind the song. That might help …

Anyway, because the fifth day is so different than the rest, I wanted to portray that with the puppet. I contemplated leaving the number “5” off completely to add to the inconsistency with the day but decided it looked better when all had a number.

To make your own Golden Rings finger puppet, you will need:

  • The Pattern
  • Felt
  • Thread to match felt
  • Needle
  • Scissors

Day 5 – Five Golden Rings:

*Felt colors: black, white, and yellow

  1. Measure and cut two 2 1/4″ wide by 4″ tall pieces of black felt for the front and back of the puppet 12 Days of Christmas Finger Puppets - Day 5 black - Felt With Love Designs
  2. Cut the rest of the pattern pieces from their corresponding colors of felt
  3. Using matching thread, sew down the “5” and the rings (I placed the top left, small ring and the large middle ring first and sewed the remaining three overlapping.) 12 Days of Christmas Finger Puppets - Day 5 in progress - Felt With Love Designs
  4. Match up the front and back and stitch them together using a blanket stitch, leaving the bottom open. I also go back and stitch just the front edge of the opening with a blanket stitch to reinforce it but that is totally optional. 12 Days of Christmas Finger Puppets - Day 5 bottom - Felt With Love Designs

What do you think? Does this one work? It’s the only puppet I really struggled with conveying properly.
